Transfer Students

Congratulations on being admitted to UIUC! You are about to join students from all over Illinois, all 50 states, and over 123 other countries in pursuing an undergraduate degree at one of the top 10 public universities in the nation.

As a transfer student, though, you are in a slightly different situation compared to a new freshman because you already have some credit hours from your previous college-level study. However, it may still be necessary for you to take the placement tests. This depends entirely on which courses the Office of Admissions and Records has accepted from your previous transcript.

The online chemistry and foreign language placement tests are required only if you meet the following conditions:

(1) you have high school credit in the subject; and

(2) you have not earned college credit in the subject; and

(3) you expect to take the subject at UIUC.

Transfer students who wish to enroll in Math 115 (Precalculus), 220 (Calculus), 221 (Calculus 1) or 234 (Calculus for Business 1) must take the ALEKS Math Placement Exam by the 5th day of the semester. Questions about ALEKS should be emailed to advising@math.illinois.edu

If you took chemistry, math and/or a foreign language at your college, and if UIUC accepted those courses, then you and your advisor will already know which UIUC courses you should enroll in to continue your studies. Questions about which courses were accepted by UIUC should be directed to the Office of Admissions and Records by emailing admissions@illinois.edu or by calling 217-333-0302. Questions specific to your academic preparation should be directed to your department or your college office.
