Information For Academic Advisors

Important Notes:

  1. Any student who wants their test scores processed for proficiency credit must provide Measurement and Evaluation with an ORIGINAL score report. Either the student can ask the testing company to send the score report directly to us, or the student can bring us their own original score report, which the testing company mailed to the student’s home address. Our office is Room 247 Armory Bldg, and we are open 8:30 to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.
  1. Advisors and others: Please do not send us photocopies of a student’s AP or IB or ACT scores through campus mail. We cannot accept photocopies of score reports even if they come from you.
  1. All incoming freshmen must take the ALEKS Math placement exam. In order to enroll in Math 115 or 234, students must score at least 50% on the test. In order to enroll in Math 220 or 221, students must score at least 70% on the test. Use the ACT Math placement only as a guide until the student has taken the ALEKS Math exam. ALEKS Math placements are valid for five months only.
  1. Chemistry and foreign language placement recommendations are valid for one year only, meaning through pre-registration for the student's third semester.
  1. Effective 2008-2009, the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam and the AP Japanese Language and Culture exam will be accepted for proficiency credit.
  1. The College Board announced that it will be discontinuing the AP Computer Science AB exam, the AP French Literature exam, the AP Latin Literature exam, and the AP Italian exam after the 2008-2009 academic year. This means that May 2008 and May 2009 are the last opportunities for students to take these exams and submit their scores for proficiency credit.

Feel free to call 244-4437 or 244-3839. If there’s a question about a particular student, please have the UIN handy.
